Mr Happy Jere is a seasoned retailer of petroleum products with 25 years industry specific experience. His career started in 1996 when he joined Protea Hotels as a Trainee Hotel Manager and spent only one year in the industry. In 1997 he joined Oilcom BP as a Sales Representative coordinating filling station operations. In this position he got trained in filling all aspects of service station operations including Product Knowledge, Health Safety Security and Environment (HSSE), franchise agreements, brand management, customer service and people management. In 2003 he volunteered to be retrenched to pursue entrepreneurship. He left formal employment in June 2005 after working on a project position of Portfolio Change Manager which aimed at reducing BP Malawi customer footprint to concentrate its energy on the most profitable establishments based on the 80/20 Pareto principle.
To fulfill his dream, in 2005 he registered a Sole Proprietorship called Bluewaves Trading and Consultancy. In 2006 he was appointed dealer for City Centre Filling Station which he is managing to the present date. Between 2007 and 2019 he has also managed the following filling stations at different periods as a caretaker dealer: Kasungu BP, Ntchisi BP, Lumbadzi Puma, Nkhotakota Puma, Dwangwa Puma and Palm Rock Puma. In 2019 Mr. Happy Jere built his own filling station at Mkaika, 40km south of Nkhotakota boma making it the second permanent establishment under Bluewaves.
Besides filling station operations, Mr Jere also entered into a Liquid Petroleum Gas distribution franchise agreement with Afrox Malawi Ltd in 2007 and has been distributing Afrox Gas in Lilongwe and Nkhotakota.
In 2022 he decided to migrate from sole tradership and registered a limited company called Bluewaves Energies Ltd which is currently in the process of full incorporation. The new company will have three concentration areas of fuels and lubricants, LPG and renewable energy.
He is currently serving as Chairman of Petroleum Retailers Association comprising of all filling station outlets in the country under different Oil Marketing Companies coordinating relationship with Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority and other stakeholders in matters of common interest.
